A Little Relief

As you all know this week has been unbearable with the heat and humidity. On top of that the air in our house was not working. We borrowed an old window unit that did its best to keep the living room at a degree we could stand to be in. At one point the temp in the house reached 90 degrees before the window unit and 85 with the window unit. But with temps hitting the 100's and a heat index of 110+ what could we expect. Last night around eleven Chris decided to tackle the ac unit again, in the end he was victorious. He never ceases to amaze me with his knowledge and handy man do it yourself talent. We ran the central air and the window unit to help drop the temperature in the house and today even with 100 degrees we stayed at a cool 78 in the house!

The kids have been troopers throughout this still doing their chores and dealing with the heat, so today we went down to my parents house to swim. Here are a few pics from our relief trip.

Wyatt overcoming his fear of jumping in.

My parents even joined us for a little game of catch. I had to take a few pics of my Dad as you are lucky to see him in the pool once every couple of years.

Chris and I were even able to steal a few seconds together! Overall a great day and little relief!

Cheeseburger Roll Up

It is summer, and like most people we grill out quite a bit in the summer, however sometimes you need a little change in the line up. Here is a recipe I use often when I need a meal quick without a lot of effort that everyone will like.

Cheeseburger Roll Up
1 lb. hamburger
1/4 brick velveta cheese
crumbled bacon or bacon bits
chopped onion (optional)
1 can of pizza crust
Brown your hamburger in a pan and drain grease when finished
Add your cheese and stir until melted
Add your bacon or bacon bits and stir
Take your crust and roll it out onto a greased cookie sheet
Spread your hamburger mixture onto the crust
Roll the crust up like a jelly roll
Place in center of cookie sheet seam side down
Bake at 375 degrees for 16-18 minutes until top is golden brown
Let sit for 2 minutes then slice into 1 inch pieces. No silverware needed pick up and go!

Fair Parade

We are extemely involved in the sport of snowmobiling and our local club the Snow Pioneers. So every year come fair time we get a couple of sleds out and think snow for at least one day during the summer.
Preparing to leave

Groomer coming down the street
Chris and Wyatt driving the groomer and throwing candy
Our friend and fellow club member Guyer pulled a trailer with some sleds behind the groomer and also carried the rest of the kids
Isabelle and Tanner cruising on the sleds thru the parade.

And then we put them away for a few more months before its time to start thinking about the trails. But only for a couple of months.

Drive In

This past weekend we met up with some of the folks from our Jeep Club the Mississippi Valley Jeep Club to take in a couple of flicks at the drive in theater. This was a first for our kids, full of questions and excitement. The movies we saw were Mr. Poppers Penguins and Cars 2. Two movies for the price of one and actually it is cheaper then most of your local theaters. And you cant go to a movie without getting popcorn, a great deal here only $5 for a large tub!

It can make for a long night after two movies and an hour and half drive home we reached home around 2 AM. The kids of course slept on the way home, wind blowing and all because we had left the sides of the top at home.

Summer, friends, new experience definitely worth the drive and the time. Something we will do again!
